Taco Inn ???????? Information

Walking up to Taco Inn at 1495 St Nicholas Ave, New York, NY 10033, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unpretentious little spot tucked into the vibrant fabric of Washington Heights, but from the moment I stepped inside, it felt like stumbling upon a neighborhood secret worth savoring. The first thing that hits you is the aroma wafting from the kitchen - a lively mix of grilled meats, fresh lime, and warm tortillas - the kind of smell that instantly makes you forget the rush of the city outside and just lean in for a taste. The location itself is a testament to authentic local flavor: right off the busy avenue yet cozy enough that regulars seem to greet the staff by name as they walk in.

Taco Inn’s menu is refreshingly straightforward, showcasing a variety of tacos that celebrate both traditional Mexican roots and playful, modern twists. I started with their carne asada tacos, and the juicy, perfectly seasoned strips of beef paired with a bright cilantro-lime finish had me nodding before I’d even taken a second bite. Each taco - whether it’s al pastor with its gentle sweetness or the smoky, tender chicken options - felt thoughtfully prepared, like the chefs know exactly how to balance textures and flavors without overcomplicating things.

The atmosphere leans casual and welcoming, with colorful tiles and murals that give off a cheerful, laid-back vibe. It’s the sort of place that’s just as comfortable for a quick lunch solo as it is for a relaxed dinner with friends. Service here feels genuinely warm; the staff checked in with smiles and offered recommendations without being pushy, which made the whole experience feel more like visiting a friend’s favorite spot than grabbing food at just another taco place.

Reviews from local diners echo that same appreciation for quality and consistency, mentioning how the friendly service and flavorful dishes keep them coming back. I can see why. There’s a sense of familiarity without predictability - you know you’re getting good food, but there’s always something new to try or a slightly different twist on an old favorite. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or settling in to explore the full menu, Taco Inn delivers an honest, satisfying taste of great tacos in a vibrant slice of NYC’s culinary scene.

What People's Say About Place

A great restaurant with very generous portions. We ordered the nachos, tacos, and a non-alcoholic piña colada. The drink was a bit on the sweet side, but overall everything was delicious. The staff were also very patient and helpful in explaining the menu. Highly recommended.

Happy hour from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday though Friday Taco Tuesday $2.50 per taco an $5 margarita

Good food and, clean location. Nice atmosphere and very good costumers services, price? Very affordable!

Came in for a quick bite. Ordered a steak torra milanesa. While waiting for the torra the server brought chips and salsa, the chips were good but the salsa wasn’t authentic… it was make out of ketchup, onions, cilantro, and diced jalapeños. Is not that it was bad, but it was ketchup. That’s the ONLY reason why the one star missing. The torta was very good. The restaurant staff was seem happy to be there, they were friendly, and attentive. The restaurant was clean and the decor was on point. Most of the bad reviews they have come from seamless so don’t let that stop you from coming in and try it out. Ill come back again and try the tacos and other items.

I have yet to sit down and eat at this restaurant but it is one of my favorites for delivery. I found it while searching for Birria tacos in my area. It had good reviews so I tried it out and loved it. The Birria is priced a bit higher than other restaurants I have tried but the quality and taste of the tacos is well worth it. If the food holds up this good during delivery it must be even better eating at the restaurant and getting fresh from the kitchen. The consume is flavorful and well seasoned. I love that they serve with plenty of lime to drench the tacos in before dipping in consume. It just makes it that much better. When I dine at the restaurant I will update with more photos.

People ate 203,0876 grams of salt in that there probably a lot more sodium then that was just today! I know people have to eat but danm! don't worry it won't ruin your appetite

Excellent, AUTHENTIC Mexican cuisine in a delightful atmosphere! The staff was INCREDIBLY kind and welcoming. I will note, you do kinda have to speak Spanish to go here, but that’s how it is with all of the BEST places, at least. We ordered enchiladas for lunch, and the tortillas were pressed and made to order. The Horchata was delicious as well. For two, it cost us $40 for two entreés and two drinks after tax and a good tip. This is our new favorite Mexican spot, we will certainly be back in a week or two! DONT LISTEN to the poor reviews, all are from years ago it seems due to a staffing shortage due to covid. The place seemed almost over-staffed, which is a good thing because none of the staff seemed stressed and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. The atmosphere is excellent and cheeful. 10/10 recommended!

Outstanding food, legitimately one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to.
